Athens Buick Dealer and GM See a Huge Increase in Buick Sales

Sept. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- “New data shows that Buick is back on top after a recent downward spiral in sales”, says Athens Buick dealer Heyward Allen Buick.  Buick has experienced a large decline in sales, but is now a hot-selling car, presumably due to marketing changes and vehicle upgrades.

GM sold 137% more vehicles in July 2010 than in July 2009.  Sales are up 60% in the first seven months of 2010 from the same time period last year.  If the sales keep on track for the rest of 2010, GM expects to sell over 148,000 Buicks in 2010.  Buick sales in 2009 were 102,306 and 137,197 in 2008.

In the past year, GM has changed the target audience for Buick.  The company is now marketing Buick, traditionally viewed as a “grandfather’s car,” to a younger crowd.  In the past 18 months, the average age of the Buick buyer has dropped by three years, according to autoguide.com.  GM has added a social campaign for the Buick and is branding the newly redesigned cars as luxury vehicles competitive with Acura and Lexus, but with a much smaller price tag.

In June, GM launched an interactive website for the 2011 Buick Regal, momentoftruth.com, to gather driver comments.  GM also hosted parties in several cities and handed out Flip video cameras for guests to make videos of their thoughts on the car, which are also posted on the site.

"Buick is just nothing but blue sky," said General Motor’s VP-Marketing Joel Ewanick.  "It's the fastest-growing brand in America, and we're selling LaCrosse as fast as we can get them. It's a great success story."
