Sept. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- We are thrilled to announce some of the most exciting news for full denture restoration in the past 20 years - the Staub Cranial system! The typical full denture treatment consists of 4 to 5 appointments. By using Staub Cranial our clients now have the possibility of
delivering dentures in 3 predictable appointments with no additional cost!

The Staub Cranial system evolved through 25 years of research. Master technician Karl Heinz Staub (Neu-lm, Germany) developed mathematical theorems that determine the exact position of natural dentition. Restorations are aligned based on cranial reference points and designed on the basis of mathematical calculations. This approach challenges the use of average values or practitioner judgment and will set new standards for full denture fabrication.

There are times when dentures have little if any resemblance to the natural dentition, and were not manufactured to be patient specifi c. This is especially true for denture wearers who commonly have multiple sets; one for looks and one for eating. Dental technicians seldom see the patient and are left to manufacture what they believe a restoration should look like. The position, function, shape, and inclination are left to artistic discretion, not exact calculation. The premise of Staub is that every person has one, and only one, correct occlusal position.

The University of Freiberg conducted a scientific validation of this system in 2003. Two maxillary master casts were manufactured from twenty dentulous subjects. All teeth were removed on one of the two models. Master technician Karl Heinz Staub, who was unaware of the previous tooth position, replaced the teeth for each of the twenty edentulous models. The tooth replacement deviated by only 5% from the original control models. In other words Mr. Staub was able to replace the teeth with 95% accuracy!

Staub Cranial utilizes defi nitive bone reference points and special devices to determine centric relation and tooth placement. These points are anatomically stable and always present whether the patient is dentulous or edentulous. On the maxilla these locations are in the hamular notch area, the incisive papilla, and the free gingival attachment located on the labial portion of the alveolar process. The mandible has similar reference points. Staub identifies these as direction points, induction points, and conclusion lines. These measurements produce precise mounting and tooth arrangement without the need for an initial bite registration.

By combining Staub’s mathematically deter-mined tooth set-up and vertical dimension with ROE’s ESP processed base, the second appointment will confi rm the fi t and esthetics of the denture. The third appointment will truly be a “no sweat” fi nal appointment. To begin a Staub denture please include the following:

1) Shade & mould
2) Study model
3) Indicate Class I, II, III
3) Master casts that include:
a. Full Borders
b. Retro molar pads
c. Hamular notches
d. Incisive papilla

We are currently exploring additional applications for the
Staub Cranial System including natural tooth position
for diagnostic wax-ups, determining a starting point for
TMJ splints, as well as fi nal porcelain parameters for
substructures.
