Aug. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Research by one of the UK’s leading online independent travel agents has revealed that 36% of holidaymakers that go abroad each year always opt for the same resort, with 24% of these stating they ‘dislike change’

The poll of 1,926 annual holidaymakers by www.sunshine.co.uk aimed to discover more about holiday resort loyalty and whether Brits are prone to being stuck in their ways, or whether they actually like change.

The 36% of holidaymakers that claimed to opt for the same resort every year were subsequently asked ‘why do you not look into holidays elsewhere?’ Whilst 1 in 4, 24%, claimed to dislike change, half, 51%, said they wouldn’t go elsewhere in case it failed to live up to their ‘favourite’ place.

Of the 36% that opted for the same resort every year, 1 in 5 said they went as far as booking into the same hotel.
Only 11% of the respondents said they went somewhere new every year. When asked ‘why?’ 62% stated they wanted to ‘see the world’, whilst 27% cited ‘boredom’ as their reason for visiting new destinations annually.

31% said that they visited the same country every year, but tried out different resorts and the remaining 22% stated that they alternated each year between a collection of their favourite places.

Chris Brown, co-founder of http://www.sunshine.co.uk, commented on the findings of the poll;
“Looking at booking statistics on our site, we do notice that a lot of people revisit resorts every year, so we wanted to look into the idea of ‘resort loyalty’ in a bit more depth and find the reasons behind it.

“It seems a lot of people can’t break the habit of going to the same resort, or even the same hotel, every year; predominately because they don’t like change. It’s understandable that many are wary of trying somewhere new, as once you like a certain resort, the next place you visit has a lot to live up to.”

He concluded, “We’d encourage people to try new places if they are brave enough, as there are so many holiday destinations to pick from, it would be a shame for them to miss out and just experience the same place every year. As they say, variety is the spice of life.”
