PRLog - Aug. 16, 2010 - LAS VEGAS -- Gibson, a well-respected actor whose previous credits include Lucky Number Slevin as well as small parts in a number of other films (including a bit in George Romero’s zombie film Diary of the Dead), starred recently as Capt. Andrew Haldane in three episodes of the Steven Spielberg – Tom Hanks project The Pacific to excellent critical reviews. Canadian born Gibson has worked steadily in both television and film, and made a strong positive impression on writer/director Chris Gabriel during the re-casting process. Joining him in the cast are Malcolm McDowell, Sid Haig, Dale Dye, John Kassir, Arron Shiver and newcomer Jennifer Skyler.
First Platoon - Rock Brannigan
Rock Brannigan, leader of a motley team of zombie fighters in the post-apocalyptic desert southwest, was originally cast with Alan Tudyk. Gibson brings a surprising comedic bent along with solid acting chops, and meshes well with the ensemble cast.
Developing a reputation for comedy and a strong storytelling bent, Gabriel leads Gibson, Skyler and Shiver into the desert to fight zombies in September, along with Capt Dale Dye as both actor and military consultant, Clint Lilley (Last of the Mohicans, Starship Troopers, Star Trek, Crash) as Stunt Coordinator and Rufus Hearn (Babylon 5, Nip Tuck, Tron 2) heading up Makeup and SFX.
Along with squad members Arron Shiver and Jennifer Skyler, Gibson will undergo military style desert training with Capt Dale Dye, accomplished actor and military advisor on Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, The Pacific and more, before filming begins.
Writer/director Chris Gabriel has previously teamed up with First Earth Films on S4, an ultra low budget 1950’s style sci-fi comedy, and will also direct Raggedy Anne, an original action/comedy also written by Gabriel, in late 2011.
First Platoon is set for release in Summer 2011.
