By: Suzanne Ostler Socialising with friends, listening to music and ‘going for a wander’ all score high on Winifred’s list of favourite things to do. And there must be something in her secret to a long life because she’s notched up an incredible 104 years. Winifred was born and brought up in Boston and spent some years working in her parents corner shop on Station Street in the town. She remembers fondly the smell of fresh bread cooked on the premises. During World War Two she worked for some time as an administrator at County Hall before being evacuated to Macclesfield away from the threat of a German invasion on the east coast. Winifred married and became a housewife. After her husband died, she lived on her own in the town until hitting her centenary year. Now living at The Minstrels Retirement Village in Sleaford Road, Boston, Winifred is still very independent. She has been a member of the Zion Methodist Church in Boston for most of her life and still engages in a number of events and groups through her connections there. She also takes an active role in life at The Minstrels too and has made lots of friends among residents and staff during the four years she’s lived there. They ensured she had a birthday to remember on August 8 with a special party and a cake. “Winifred cut her cake and joined in the celebrations,” For more information on Retirement Villages please visit http://www.retirementvillages.co.uk Note to editors For more press information contact Suzanne Ostler at Media Matters on 01733 371363 or email suzanne@mediamatters- End
