Follow on Google News | Robert Braff Inducted into the A.M.A.H.O.F.(Inc) for 2005Lifetime Achievement - International Martial Arts
By: Barbara Klein Along with his love of the martial arts Dr. Braff has a fondness for horses and has taught horsemanship and riflery at the Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN. Dr. Braff has also taught skiing to special needs and disabled students for the Shaker Board of Education and in Washington, D.C. Dr. Braff did special education teaching at Galudet College for the Deaf. Along with this he has also worked with the Battered Women's Shelter helping to build self-esteem and teach self-defense. Dr. Braff holds the rank of Ju-dan (Grandmaster, Soke) in San-Ryu-Do. He has also earned Black Belt and Instructor rankings in Kendo, Iaido, Isshin-Ryu, Kempo, Jiujitsu, Kick Boxing and Dim Mak. Using his martial arts knowledge Dr. Braff followed the adage, "Do not seek to know who the Masters of the past were, but seek to know the knowledge that they sought" and developed San-Ryu-Do. Dr. Braff formalised San-Ryu-Do on 7th November, 2002, when it was recognised as an official system, thus making Dr. Braff its Soke. Dr. Braff was active in the ATO fraternity in his college years. He has also been active in politics working with Congressman John Ashbrook's office in Washington, D.C., working on the Re-Election campaign for President Ronald Reagan, and functioning as an Assistant Campaign Manager for Senator Ben Skall of Ohio. Grandmaster Braff has been inducted into eight Halls of Fame (Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu Hall of Fame; Unified Martial Arts Hall of Fame; the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame; the World Karate Union Hall of Fame; the United States Martial Arts Association International Hall of Fame; the International Jiu-jitsu Hall of Fame; the Cosmopolitan Florida Martial Arts Brotherhood Hall of Fame; and, the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame). In 2004 Dr. Braff co-authored "San-Ryu-Do " The Art of the Wakizashi - Volume 1- with Dr. Kevin D. Hufford. Dr. Braff was the Karate Institute's Man of the Year in 2001. In 2003 he became the World Congress of Amateur Athletics- state director for Ohio, a state director for Chanbara, and a US National Team coach. Dr. Braff is recognised as an international expert on Special Education and Speed Learning in the martial arts. He is a Director and Board Member of many national and international martial arts organisations It is in Madison, Ohio, where Dr. Braff as member of the Madison, OH, Chamber of Commerce maintains a small counselling centre for the Madison Community and teaches classes at his dojo, the Sahara School of Martial Arts, (www.sanryudo.com) # # # About Robert Braff: Robert Braff has a PhD and M.S. in asian studies, and is the Grandmaster of Syan-Ru-Do, a style of swordmanship that was founded in 2002. Robert Braff has studied and practiced several styles of karate, including Tae-Kwon-Do, Okinawan Karate, Judo, and Isshin-Ryu, amongst others. Professor Braff also opened his own school of Isshin-Ryu and has taught martial arts at the Mayfield Academy of Self-Defense in 2002. This is where he'd begun his learning in 1967.
