3d Print Innovator Joins Bits From Bytes

Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- 3 August 2010: One of the key people responsible for creating affordable 3D printer technology has joined Clevedon/UK-based Bits from Bytes.

Ed Sells, (29) joins the fast-expanding company direct from Bath University where he worked on the original research project to develop 3D printers that have since been developed by Bits from Bytes.

With a degree in mechanical engineering and Phd in 3D print technology, Ed was responsible for designing the mechanical concept for the ‘RepRap’ 3D printer prototype.

The technology that was developed by Ed was then taken on by Bits from Bytes which has taken the concept further in the form of its self-assembly RapMan and fully complete BfB 3000 printers.

With sales in over 12 countries across the world, the company that was formed by Ian Major, Ian Adkins and Andy McLaren, has doubled in size over the last six months with sales this year expected to top £2 million.

Ed will now allow be involved in developing the technology further to make 3D printers common place for homes, colleges and businesses across the world. Ed will also look to improve further the print quality, improve production of the printers in line with demand and look at developing innovative new ideas.

Ed said: “3D print technology is still in its infancy so it’s a hugely exciting time for the sector. The potential is huge and I’m really pleased to be working for a company that is actually manufacturing and selling the technology which I helped develop.”
