July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Kenyan McDuffie, Ward 5 Democrat candidate for City Council, urges Councilmember Marion Barry to withdraw his disapproval resolution for the highly anticipated construction of Gage-Eckington Park at the site of a former school on V Street.

“We support funding for Gage-Eckington Park and strongly encourage Councilmember Barry to withdrawal the disapproval resolution he filed last week,” Kenyan stated. “The construction had been held up by contracting issues then Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas went back and forth with funding, and, now this.”

Kenyan is not the only one speaking out on the issue. Many residents throughout Ward 5 have expressed their disappointment and discontent behind Councilmember Barry’s disapproval filed last Wednesday. Ward 5 Councilmember said he is having his staff work on it, while taxpaying residents are left in a state of confusion.

“This is a case of ‘politics as usual’,” says Kenyan, “These types of games will end when I am elected to City Council. I will reach out to Councilmember Barry and express not only my concerns, but the concerns of my future constituents regarding the matter. After so many years of pulling for this park, and having secured $1.5 million, it’s time for the residents to see neighborhood revitalization efforts take its course.”
