Kleinhandler Statement On The Anthony Mele / Pow Network Allegations

July 27, 2010 - PRLog -- West Nyack, NY – Congressional Candidate York Kleinhandler, of the 17th District of New York,  issued the following statement regarding fellow candidate Anthony Mele and allegations on the POW Network's website:

"My campaign and I are aware of the allegations reported by the POW Network regarding Mr. Mele's military record.  The POW Network is a well-respected, nationwide, independent organization that has no affiliation with my campaign.  Mr. Mele's accusatory statements toward my supporters and I in this matter are unfounded and just another attempt by his campaign to distort the truth, mislead voters, and launch another attack against my campaign instead of talking about the real issues facing our district and our country.

It is unfortunate that issues such as one's military service have seemingly become fair game in today's political environment; however, politicians have brought these lines of inquiry upon themselves by attempting to mislead voters regarding their service in order to gain an advantage.  As these are only allegations at this point in time, I have instructed my campaign staff to respectfully avoid the issue of Mr. Mele's service until the truth comes out.  My campaign and I are focused on running a positive, issues-based campaign as I believe the people of the 17th District deserve a higher level of debate between candidates of integrity, not candidates who hope to gain from distortions, misrepresentations and political attacks."
