Do you remember that stimulus package back in 2009? It also contained the first steps of health care reform and its ambiguous language required lots of new rules and regulations. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius just issued some new regulations and she wants to be sure the government knows exactly how fat you are. After all, obesity causes lots of disease.
The new electronic health records, which are supposed to be in place by 2014, must contain your BMI (body mass index). The new regulations also stipulate that the electronic records be capable of sending public health data to state and federal health agencies such as HHS and CDC.
Expect that vaccination reporting will be next. In fact, expect the government to have unfettered access to all your personal medical data. And before too long you can certainly expect a chip in your arm to not only keep track of your medical history, whereabouts, current vital signs, but also to influence your physiology.
