Creative Writing Workshops for Middle Schoolers

Laguna Beach Books is pleased to announce our first creative writing workshops for middle school writers. These workshops will be led by Julie Brickman and Deidre Woollard.

July 18, 2010 - PRLog -- LAGUNA BEACH, CA., August 21 & 28, 1 to 3 pm. Laguna Beach Books is pleased to announce our first creative writing workshops for middle school writers. These workshops will be led by Julie Brickman and Deidre Woollard.

Are you telling yourself stories in your head? Do you dream of writing books like the ones you love? If you want to learn how to make the stories in your head live on the page, join us!

You can sign up by emailing Julie at juliebrickman@gmail.com. Please include a paragraph about why you want to be in the group, a page of your own creative writing, and a list of your three favorite books. By August 14, please submit up to three double-spaced pages of your own creative writing by email to Julie. These will be distributed to all participants in the workshop. Space is limited to a maximum of eight participants. The cost is $50 for the two sessions.

About Julie Brickman & Deidre Woollard:
Julie Brickman teaches on the fiction faculty of the brief-residency Master of Fine Arts in Writing Program at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the author of the novel, What Birds Can Only Whisper (Turnstone Press), stories appearing in the North American Review, the Barcelona Review, and other journals, thirty-some book reviews for the San Diego Union-Tribune. She has received Canada Council grants, a Pushcart nomination, a writer-in-residence position, and served as guest editor in both fiction and creative non-fiction for the Louisville Review.

Deidre Woollard is a Los Angeles-based writer and the editor of Luxist.com, an AOL blog. Her stories have appeared in literary magazines such as Sojourn, Pebble Lake Review, Words and Images, Big Ugly Review, the Mota IV anthology, and more. A story of hers has been made into a short film. She is currently working on a young adult novel about monsters.
