Arthouse Thriller “Crumble” will premiere in New York with stars from Scarface and Sopranos

"Crumble” will have its world premiere at the New York Film and Video Festival starring Steven Bauer best known for his role as Manolo opposite Al Pacino in “Scarface” and Oxsana Lada who appeared in the Sopranos for several seasons.

July 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Lileth Productions has announced that their independent film "Crumble” will have its
world premiere at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival
(NYIIFVF) at Village East Cinema on Saturday July 24, 2010 at 6.10 p.m. on Screen 3.
The film has already been well received by critics and garnered major nominations
for "Best Short Film" and "Best Director".

“Crumble” originated from a short story written by former film publicist Renata
Bialkowska who wanted to make a statement about empowerment of women and
exploitation of their sexuality. Films that have inspired “Crumble” include “Thelma
and Louise”, “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Requiem for a Dream”. The narrative unfolds as
refined upper class trophy wife Lorna loses her seemingly perfect husband Mike to
sordid affairs and dark addictions. She is then lured into the seedy New York City
underground scene run by Reda, a sleazy pimp, and boldly lets go of her inhibitions,
faces her demons and empowers herself through an unlikely relationship with a
prostitute named Bianca. A sexy arthouse thriller, “Crumble” is one woman’s journey
through self-discovery and eventually out of the “box” that has imprisoned her for
so many years. Greed, lust, addiction, chaos… this truly gritty tale pays homage to
the underworld of New York City and ends with a surprise twist sure to please even
the most discerning fan of the genre. Bialkowska approached Golden Globe nominated
actor Steven Bauer to play the role of the ruthless and dark antagonist named Reda.
Bauer, best known for his role as Manolo opposite Al Pacino in “Scarface”,
immediately took a liking to the script and his complex character. He has appeared
in over 100 films including “Traffic”, “Thief of Hearts” and “Primal Fear”. The
female protagonist, Lorna, is played by Ukrainian beauty Oksana Lada who is best
known for her recurring role in “The Sopranos” and was recently in the Sundance
nominated film “Cold Souls”.
NYIIFVF’s Founder and Executive Producer Stuart Alson stated “’Crumble’ is a
compelling and well made film with an outstanding effort from a first time director
and an unforgettable performance by newcomer Alexandra Grossi who plays ‘Bianca’”.

The journey behind every independent film is always unique and what unanimously
unites the filmmakers is the struggle to get their vision executed on film with
limited funds. Renata approached award-winning writer/producer David Karges to help
develop “Crumble”. Stated David, “I get pitched many scripts to produce but selected
Renata’s story because of its raw energy and her willingness to push boundaries”.
LA-based production company Discipline Filmworks came on board after Founder/Owner
Michelle Barry read the script. Stated Barry “This script appeals to the market that
my production company wants to stay tapped into”. While the production had an
abundance of passion and enthusiasm the funds were scarce. Renata was 8 months
pregnant with her second child whilst in production but they continued to persevere
and eventually procured finishing funds one year later with the help of Executive
Producer Martin Hampford. Karges, now based in LA, at the time was in development on
several projects including producing a feature length horror film he wrote that was
bought by TimeSignature Entertainment entitled “Yaksha”, coordinating a documentary
on LeBron James in Cleveland, Ohio and writing the pilot webisode for a horror
anthology web series that will be shot in NYC later this summer. Stated David, “In
the end it’s about being proud of the efforts you’ve made in seeing something
through to the bitter end and the product that literally results from years of
blood, sweat and tears”.
