June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- The Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center has been honored by the Westchester-Putnam Workforce Investment Board tomorrow at its annual meeting.

The hotel is among those county businesses to participate in the Westchester Summer Jobs Program designed to employ young people from low-income families.

Donnovan Beckford, director, Westchester/Putnam Workforce Incentive Board, said the participation of local businesses made it possible to employ dozens of youth this summer.

“Our summer jobs program was an important public-private initiative. I thank Tarrytown House Estate and our other partners for helping to make it so successful," said Beckford.

Joseph Santore, General Manager of the Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center said, “We are pleased to be able to participate in Westchester’s Summer Jobs Program for Youth. It’s a great program that helps train young people to enter the hospitality industry and benefits the community as well.”

The meeting is being hosted by Westchester County Executives, Robert P. Astorino and Putnam County Executive Robert Bondi and the members of the WIB. The theme of the meeting will be “Workforce Development: Your Business is Our Business.” It is being held from 4 pm –to 6 pm at the Doubletree Hotel Tarrytown, 455 South Broadway.

The Tarrytown House Estate will be presented with a certificate of recognition for its participation.

For the past 10 years, the Workforce Investment Board received government funding to support summer employment, including $1.6 million received in 2009 to subsidize training and programs for 932 economically eligible teens and young adults seeking the opportunity to learn, earn money, and take the first steps on the path to a career. The Westchester Summer Jobs Program's partnership with the private sector was established to pair businesses seeking short-term summer help with pre-screened youth eager to work.
