June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- In the last ten years, the country’s infrastructure and transportation facilities intensified its effectiveness and efficiency by taking huge steps in its construction, upgrading and modernization.

Today, all corners of the archipelago have become accessible with the construction of new road networks and infrastructures and the improvement of existing ones.

From 2001 to 2009, a total of 222 major road and bridge projects across the country have been completed.  This translates to more than 47,000 kilometers of major roads and 246,588.14 kilometers of bridge projects constructed.

Road users can now enjoy a timelier and more convenient travel with the developments of the North Luzon Expressway Expansion Project Phase 1; Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Project; South Luzon Expressway Tolls 1, 2, and 3; and the Star Tollway Project in Southern Luzon.

Travel and trade also got a boost through the Nautical Superhighway Roll-On Roll-Off.  This RORO terminal system now connects seventy ports nationwide, opening up gateways for businesses to expand and develop. These port projects have also generated hundreds of new jobs.

During the period, 67 airport projects have been upgraded. Three new airports were also built with five new airports already underway steadily making every corner of the Philippines easily within reach for the Filipinos!

In Metro Manila, the government responded to the increasing number of daily commuters by improving and intensifying its mass transportation system. With the construction and upgrading of LRT 1 and 2 lines and the efforts of connecting the two to the MRT have provided Metro Manila residents a faster, easier and more convenient way to reach their destination.

Farm-to-Market roads proved to be most beneficial to road users and traders in the countryside by providing a most efficient way for their goods and products to reach the markets.

Where there used to be small chances of progress due to ineffective transport system, the countryside now has found its connection to wider, more viable economic prospects.

With the tangible developments in the country’s superhighways, bridges, farm-to-market roads, airports, seaports, and railways, the country has earned the admiration and confidence of foreign visitors and investors and most of all, it has interconnected 7,107 islands into one country providing every Filipino growth and opportunity for success.

The Ang Pilipinas Ngayon advocacy program is hosted by Fr. Anton Pascual, Executive Director of Caritas Manila, together with Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman, The Ang Pilipinas Ngayon advocacy program will take viewers on a comprehensive and archipelago-wide assessment of the many developments in the country during the last ten years that will surely make every Filipino proud.
