Follow on Google News | CampusEAI Consortium Implements Central Authentication Service (CAS) for the University of AdelaideServices will help major research institution fully utilize myCampus single sign-on capabilities
Originally developed by Yale University, CAS is a single sign-on authentication system for the web. With CAS, users can access multiple password and security credentialed applications after entering only one set of login information. UOA benefits from extending their myCampus CAS in many ways, including: •Making the myCampus portal the single point of entry for all backend systems •Applying single sign-on technology services to all systems •Driving traffic to the UOA myCampus portal through central login •Increased single sign-on capabilities •Ease of multitier authentication via proxy Some of the applications and backend systems that utilize UOA’s CAS are: •Oracle® PeopleSoft® •Google® Mail •Various Ruby on Rails® based custom web applications “The University of Adelaide engaged CampusEAI to review, document and upgrade its mission-critical CAS server,” said Peter Duldig, Project Director at the University of Adelaide. “The engagement went very smoothly, and CampusEAI’s staff worked well with the University’s technical staff. CampusEAI helped to reduce the risk and resource demand of attempting this critical project in-house.” “We are happy that the University of Adelaide has utilized our professional services for help with CASification,” For further information, members can contact their CampusEAI account manager. It has since become a Jasig project. Since the availability of the Central Authentication Service server implementation and protocol, there have been many client programs developed for "CASifying" applications such that they can use CAS for user authentication. Single sign on is a session/user authentication process that allows a user to provide his or her credentials once in order to access multiple applications. The request to access a web resource is intercepted either by a component in the web server, or by the application itself. Unauthenticated users are diverted to an authentication service and returned only after a successful authentication.
