“We are very pleased and excited to have someone of Maurice Jones’ experience in the local marketing industry,” said Nicole Newsome, conference coordinator. “We can’t wait to hear his perspective about the transition of the company into the multi-platform, multi-media age.”
LMX is an educational networking event put together by local businesses in various sectors of marketing and advertising. The local marketing expo is designed to help companies learn to better promote their products and services in the region. Jones will share his knowledge of the media business and will talk about how the newspaper company successfully continued its diversification into other sectors of the media and marketing industry during a tough economy.
“He will talk with us about how they became successful with online publishing, direct mail and targeted print media,” said Newsome. “He will also discuss the future of Pilot Media and its role in the Hampton Roads community.”
Jones is a Rhodes scholar with a doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law, a master’s degree of Philosophy in International Relation from St. John’s College, Oxford University and a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College. Under his leadership, The Virginian-Pilot has a Sunday newspaper readership of nearly 500,000, and its websites have more than 1.3 million unique visitors monthly.
