June 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Youngstown, OH –June 4, 2010 Xavier University School of Medicine has announced it will change its name to ‘Avalon University School of Medicine’ (AUSOM) and will relocate to the island of Curacao.  The name change and the relocation are part of their continued effort to improve its quality and standard of education.   The new location will feature a larger, more modernized campus, and on-site living.  “Our new facilities will really enhance the overall learning experience for our students and offer our professors better resources to teach medicine,” said Dr. Samir Fatteh, Executive Dean at AUSOM.

In respect to the name change, Dr. Fatteh explained, “We have always planned to change the name of the University to set ourselves apart from other universities with the same name. We felt that the timing is right for this transition.”

Because the move is solely for geographic purposes, the current Deans and admissions procedures will remain intact during this transition, and all students are assured that all course work compiled and credits earned will remain intact.
