Wardell to Postpone Asian Trade Mission

Wardell postpones Trade Mission due to Japanese Cabinet shuffle

June 15, 2010 - PRLog -- On June 3, Japanese Prime Minister Hatoyama resigned, and a new prime minister was swore into office. Unlike the United States, the Japanese government is very centralized, and with a new prime minister comes a new cabinet.

With these changes, the people I was scheduled to meet with to discuss trade opportunities are moving to different positions and it is unclear if leaving on this trip would bear fruit for the district. It would end up being a ‘vacation’ and would waste my campaigns time, money and resources.

Because of the transition, my trade mission to Japan has been moved to the fall, win or lose. We must start developing jobs in Southwest Missouri without the heavy hands of the federal government to strengthen the economy, and I remain committed to helping open the doors of trade.

In the mean time, I will make efforts to speak with Japan’s Ambassador to the United States in Washington to ensure the lines of communications remain open, and we get the most out of my trip in the fall.
