June 15, 2010 - PRLog -- A slice of Staffordshire history, in the form of a series of postcards showing scenes from St Bede’s School, near Rugeley, during the mid-20th Century, is set to come under the hammer at Penkridge auction house Cuttlestones’ next general sale on Wednesday, 23rd June. The eight cards give a fascinating insight into the way the independent school, now a preparatory school for boys and girls aged 4 - 13, looked in years gone by and include images of the dormitory, school rooms, kitchen, dining room, playroom and a reception room as well a view of the lake.

The very fact that the postcards are being sold in their home county of Staffordshire is fairly remarkable - given the fact that they are part of a consignment from a charity in Oxford. MD and Head Auctioneer, Ben Gamble, explains:

“We work closely with a number of charities, undertaking valuations and advising on donated items that we feel would raise more funds by being sold at auction than via a conventional charity shop, of which these cards are a prime example. They were donated to Helen and Douglas House in Oxford, for whom we do lot of work – we couldn’t quite believe it when we opened the box and saw that the postcards originated at a school just a few miles from where we are based!

“The local angle means that we’re confident that these postcards will generate significant interest – where better to sell a piece of Staffordshire history than in a Staffordshire sale room?”

The postcards are just one of a diverse range of lots that will be up for sale at Cuttlestones’ Wednesday, June 23rd general sale. Starting at 10am the sale catalogue will include antique, vintage and modern furniture, collectables, silver and jewellery in addition to some white goods, office furniture and items such as bikes and gardening tools.

Viewing will take place on Tuesday, 22nd June from 10am – 7pm, when the catalogue will also be available. For further details on how to buy and sell items at auction visit http://www.cuttlestones.co.uk or call 01785 714905.
