This method has been gaining popularity by many people and exterminators as it doesn't require the use of dangerous poisons and protects the animal from harm. Most traps used today are human, which means the animal wanders in (usually attracted by an edible treat), the door snaps shut, and the exterminator returns in a few days to collect and release the critter in a suitable area designated by the local government. Exterminators use this method mostly for larger mammals such as squirrels, skunks, raccoons, and opossums.

Poison Bait and Traps

These are used to catch insects as well as small animals like rats and mice. Although there are various types of traps and bait available, the one people are most familiar with are mousetraps. This is a small wooden block with a metal snapping device fixed to it. Bait, commonly peanut butter, is spread on the trap. Once a mouse or rat steps onto it, the metal bar is activated, snapping down and breaking the animal's neck.

Insect poison bait traps are sometimes called roach hotels. These are little plastic discs that are filled with poison that supposedly attract roaches or other insects that die once inside. You can set these up without the aid of an exterminator, but their effectiveness, especially in controlling large problems, is doubtful.

Poison Spray and Fumigation

These are some of the most effective and commonly sought exterminator methods by those suffering from insect problems. Exterminators can treat a variety of insect problems using different poison sprays both indoors and outdoors. Sometimes small mammals can also be targeted by this method.

Fumigation is when the entire house is sealed off (usually with a tent) for a few days and then sprayed extensively. This is the most effective and expensive as it can eliminate adult pests as well as larvae and eggs. Unlike spraying, fumigation will require some extensive preparation such as removing perishables and protecting fragile objects as well as finding alternative accommodation for your family and pets for a few days.

Natural Treatments

Some exterminators use natural treatments and preventative measures to help keep pests at bay. The effectiveness of these methods is debatable and results often take longer than through the more traditional poison and chemical route. Natural preventative measures, such as habitat modification to discourage mice and other critters from breaking into your home are generally successful as well as inexpensive.

In Kansas City exterminator experts are experienced enough to tackle any severe or difficult problems that you are facing when it comes to pests or critters.
