Winners Announced for It Was Not Supposed to End This Way, The First Line Short Story Contest

All Booked Up and Peak City Publishing, LLC hosted a short story contest called "The First Line." Participants between 12-20 were encouraged to submit short stories beginning with the first sentence: "It was not supposed to end this way."

June 14, 2010 - PRLog -- All Booked Up and Peak City Publishing, hosted a celebration of the young adult authors for the first in a series of short story contests, carlled "The First Line."

Danny Galagher, graduate of Middle Creek High School in Apex, NC and rising freshman to UNC, won the honor of First Place with his short story: "At Least There's That." Danny's story will be featured on the cover and as the first chapter of the book. His story was based on the unintended consequences of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is a quick paced story with a lesson in the personal cost of doing something for someone else. During the event, he met with illustrator Derrick Eason to sketch out his vision of the cover. Danny was also interviewed by the Editor of The Apex Herald.

Monica Doebel, a thirteen year-old writer from Sterling, VA won second place. Monica wrote "Daisies" a story of grief and hope. She currently attends Seneca Ridge Middle School in Sterling, Virginia. She enjoys volleyball, spending time with friends, writing, and listening to music.

Katie Hockaday, a rising Elon University freshmen and graduate of Middle Creek High School in Apex, NC, won Third Place in the contest. Her story, "The Dreadful Life of a Fake Neon-Colored Daisy" will be published in the short story collection as well. The story, based on an AP English assignment, was submitted and received rave reviews for the imagery and emotional connections.

Grace Guyer, author of The Bretayer was also honored with a gift certificate and a chapter in the book. Her story, based on mythology, touched on the life lesson of remorse, regret and the goodness of others who are willing to love and forgive for something we may not be able to forgive.

Peak City Publishing, LLC will be facilitating the copy-editing, cover and book design with the winning authors. The book is targeted for printing in the mid-July timeframe.
