June 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Ethan was recently chosen to compete in the largest wrestling championship tournament in the world, the National Cadet Freestyle Nationals this summer in Fargo, North Dakota.

Taking a 4th place in the State Freestyle Championships this May in Fresno, Ethan qualified to compete for the California State Wrestling Team for a chance at a national title in his weight category. The National Championship in Fargo has competitions in Greco style wrestling and Freestyle wrestling for both girls and boys of all age groups of the best of the nation’s wrestlers.

The California State Team is envied among other states for the attention and resources they provide to each wrestler.  They will travel as a team to Fargo, provide room and board plus team uniforms for all of the California’s top wrestlers that qualified. To prepare for the tournament, which will be held July 12-25, The California State Team will first be attending a training camp at North Dakota State University. Bonnin will then compete alongside 2500 of the country’s best wrestlers at this prestigious event.

This is a rare opportunity for both Ethan and Villa Park High. “This is setting a precedence for Villa Park High School” states Coach Aaron Cross, as no one has ever competed at this high level in freestyle wrestling representing Villa Park High. “Ethan is small, but he’s very strong for his size and has great potential at this weight class.” Ethan will be competing in the lightest weight class of 84 lbs.

Ethan began wrestling only July of last year and has already demonstrated significant abilities in his future of wrestling on the Villa Park High team. He is an honors student and has earned respect from his Coaches and teammates. Bonnin was also recently awarded the Coaches Choice Award. He had been competing in the 103 lb wt class and being only 70 lbs at the time, was still able to wrestle and win matches against kids 30+ lbs heavier than himself.

To compete at Nationals representing the state of California and Villa Park High is a great accomplishment for this athlete. Ethan states “I’m nervous but excited. I know this is a rare opportunity and I’m going to do as good as I possibly can.”
