June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- While Tim Howard’s focus is on the World Cup in South Africa, a part of his heart is always in New Jersey. He’s representing the NJ Center for Tourette Syndrome in the Pepsi Refresh Project at ussoccer.com. If he wins, $50,000 will be donated to establish a youth Advocacy Academy- a chance to give young people with Tourette Syndrome and other special needs the communications skills necessary to succeed in life.

“We can make a difference and help provide much needed resources for these kids and these families,” said Howard who knows firsthand what it’s like to live with the challenges of this neurological disorder which manifests in as many as 1 in 100 individuals. Kids with Tourette Syndrome have to deal with the stigma attached to this disorder, which often leads to isolation and bullying. The NJCTS Advocacy Academy will help all kids, regardless of their limitations, stand up and speak up for themselves.

To vote, visit www.ussoccer.com/pepsirefresh now through June 12th.
