June 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Of Former Fame rose from the ashes of a Craigslist ad and locally successful Portland band 737. After leaving 737 to finish his degree, bass player Omni (Joel) began to miss the call of the stage and the thrill of playing live. He soon hopped on the internet to look for a singer to start his own band using his own music and his weapon of choice, guitar. After a few tryouts, a singer was found and Omni began scouring the PDX area for other potential rockers. Eventually he stumbled upon a man named Brent at work. “He just looked like a drummer,” says Joel. So one day Omni introduced himself in the employee cafeteria and 2 sentences later inquired if Brent played an instrument. It turns out Omni’s suspicions were right, though Brent had not played drums for a while and didn’t own a kit after his last had been borrowed permanently (read, “stolen”). Omni persisted in convincing Brent to remedy this and they soon became a trio. Shortly thereafter it became apparent that a second guitar would be needed for the extra melodies in Omni’s head and Steve, an old high school friend he had recently reconnected with, was brought on board. They cycled through possible names and to their disappointment, the first few good ones turned out to be taken. While fooling around with pen and paper at work, Brent happened upon an idea in cursive that he liked. He presented it to the band and all agreed the title was worthy. Of Former Fame finally had a name. Bassist through bassist flew through the band and they began to fear none suitable could be found. The group continued to try out bass players and practice in the singer’s garage until the Police politely informed them they had to cease and desist, now. With the lack of an appropriate practice pad and their first gig coming within weeks, they improvised by moving to an electronic kit and direct amplifier simulations via Roland and Line 6 gear. Now hours of practice could be had with only the click of sticks and belting vocals heard beyond the practice room door. They continue this tradition to this day. After winning a narrow second place spot in the Battle of the Bands, the unanimous theme from the crowd was, “You guys are AWESOME! but your singer sucks.” As you might imagine the original vocalist quickly disappeared from the roster and Steve moved over from second guitarist to front man with some gentle prodding and occasional death threats. Many original songs were crafted and as time went on, Omni recorded their first 7 song EP with much blood, sweat and coffee. O.F.F. placed their music in as many locations on the web as they could find and started gathering a steady stream of fans online. Still out a permanent bassist, O.F.F. continued to audition and play shows with different bass players until one day Jason (JD) responded to the call and the search finally ceased. With their lineup now complete, and Deka Records helping hands, Of Former Fame’s story continues into territory unknown…
