May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- The Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science is pleased to announce Noeticist Prof. Richard L. Amoroso as a Gold Medal Winner for 2010. The award ceremony, considered one of Hungary's most important scientific event in 2010, will be held near Budapest at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Medicine hall on Saturday 12 June. Although Prof. Amoroso has published over 30 distinguished books and 200 papers in several scientific fields, this award is made for contributions to just two of those fields – for his work on Philosophy of Mind and the newly recognised problem of consciousness, as well as for related work on self-organized complex systems theory with links to medicine and biology. The award ceremony, is considered one of Hungary's most important scientific events in 2010 and will be attended by a team of Hungarian and foreign press services.

The Telesio - Galilei Academy of Science, was established in September 2007. The Academies primary aim is to promote science. There are no economic interests, or considerations to the Academy. Telesio - Galilei Academy of Science for the betterment of science. The raison d'etre for the Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science and its affiliated Academies is the free exchange of scientific ideas. To champion the true scientifc spirit, and encourage rational and scientific discourses for no reward other than the betterment of science; Telesio-Galilei Prizes and medals honoratia are ancillary to provide recognition of and encouragement for scientific work. Indeed, there are many points of disagreement and contention amongst scientific technicalities and concepts; as it should indeed be. That we should regard ourselves responsible as an Academy for upholding the right of rational disagreement as the most important principle governing our assembly.

Bernardino Telesio (1509-1588) belongs to a group of independent philosophers of the late Renaissance who left the universities in order to develop philosophical and scientific ideas beyond the restrictions of the Aristotelian scholastic tradition. Authors in the early modern period referred to these philosophers as ‘novateurs' and ‘modern’. In contrast to his successors Patrizzi and Campanella, Telesio was a fervent critic of metaphysics and insisted on a purely empiricist approach in natural philosophy - like Galileo he thus became a forerunner of early modern empiricism.
