May 11, 2010 - PRLog -- RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., USA. May 11, 2010 – Geomagic will demonstrate the latest versions of its Geomagic Studio reverse engineering and Geomagic Qualify quality inspection software for the first time in the U.S. in booth 212 at the RAPID 2010 conference and exposition, May 18-20 in Anaheim, California.  The company also has a presence in the SculptCAD Rapid Artists show and in a conference session on creating digital models from 3D scanner data.

Improving results, saving time
Geomagic Studio 12 and Qualify 12, scheduled for shipping in late May, deliver unparalleled ease of use combined with innovative new features that improve results and save time.  Both applications offer the familiar ribbon-style interface pioneered by Microsoft Office 2007, support Windows 7, and have been optimized to run up to 40 percent faster.

Geomagic Studio 12 is the only reverse engineering software to directly integrate with all leading mechanical CAD packages (Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER, Siemens NX, and SolidWorks).  New functionality includes:
·   Autosurface, which creates high-quality, exact NURBS surfaces from a polygon mesh at the push of a button.
·   Automatic surface and solid trimming via Parametric Exchange, speeding CAD model creation.
·   Fast hole-filling and automatic “healing” of polygon meshes.

The groundbreaking new feature in Geomagic Qualify 12 is the ability to embed 3D models directly in a PDF report.  Other new capabilities include:
·   Quick feature creation to speed up the creation of inspection plans.
·   Algorithms for aligning test models with reference models.
·   WYSIWYG template designer for customized reports.

Behind the scenes of the art show
Besides its visible presence on the show floor, Geomagic Studio software plays a behind-the-scenes role in the works of art on display at the SculptCAD Rapid Artists exhibit, sponsored by SculptCAD, a provider of sculptural CAD design and reverse-engineering services.  The first-time exhibit at the RAPID show is dedicated to the convergence of art and technology.

Artists participating in the show used Geomagic Studio software to process scan data and create 3D models for rapid prototyping and manufacturing.

“Geomagic Studio is so intuitive and easy to learn that most of the participating artists were comfortable with it after a tutorial that took less than a day,” says Nancy Hairston, founder and president of VanDuzen Inc., the parent company of SculptCAD, and one of the exhibit’s artists.  “Geomagic and the other 3D digital tools enlightened the artists to new creative and business opportunities open to them through 3D scanning and processing technologies.”

Demystifying 3D scanning
Geomagic is also represented in the RAPID 2010 conference.  Kevin Scofield, senior product manager, is leading a session in the 3D imaging track that addresses differences and similarities between “as-built” vs. “as-designed” when creating digital models from 3D scan data.  Scofield will demystify the two processes and provide information on the unique toolsets needed to succeed.  The session will take place between 10 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19.
