May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Lexington, Mass. – Ipswitch, Inc.’s Network Management Division, the developer of the WhatsUp Gold suite of innovative IT management solutions, today announced it has been chosen by Alabama One Credit Union for end-to-end network management of the credit union’s 10 branches, including 738 monitors and 132 critical network devices. Features like continuous network tuning for optimal performance, instant notification of down devices, and the ability to proactively manage network resources with WhatsUp Gold’s reporting capabilities, are all factors in the success of Alabama One’s partnership with the Network Management Division.

In addition, Alabama One’s IT department, which required customizations to the WhatsUp Gold setup, including a SQL back end and multiple redundant systems, relied on the WhatsUp Gold support team for telephone assistance and received point by point instructions on customizing the setup.

"Within minutes of completing the install, the network was discovered," said Chris Koskodan, network administrator, Alabama One Credit Union. "The benefits were immediate: for the first time we could monitor the status of all business-critical network devices in real time and receive audible alerts the minute there is an issue," Koskodan said.

Alabama One also relies heavily son WhatsUp Gold reporting features, which are used extensively to track SLAs, as well as the variety of alert and notification formats, including visible, audible email alerts, text messages and phone calls with voicemail after hours at 10 second intervals to ensure problems are addressed immediately.

"We now check our vendor SLAs against actual performance numbers. In the past, we had no way to monitor vendor stats ourselves; we had to rely on what the vendors told us. With WhatsUp Gold we now have the hard numbers and can hold vendors to their promises. In addition, we make extensive use of the reports, including setting bandwidth thresholds at peak times so we can manage the network proactively. Troubleshooting is greatly improved, even for phantom problems," Koskodan said.

About Alabama One

Chartered in 1951 with just $35 in assets, Alabama One today is a multi-million dollar full-service financial institution headquartered in Tuscaloosa and with 10 locations throughout the state. In 2009 it merged with Alabama 1st Capital Credit Union, expanding new members by 10,000 and growing assets by more than $50 million, while adding two branch locations.

Since 1973 it had been known as BF Goodrich Employees Federal Credit Union, but in 2009 members voted to change their charter from a federally mandated credit union to a state chartered one. The watershed vote paved the way for a merger with Alabama 1st Capital Credit Union, adding 18 new counties to the field of membership, and calling for a new name indicating state-wide unity: Alabama One Credit Union. As a result of the merger, the credit union expanded by 10,000 new members and grew assets by more than $50 million in a single year, while adding two branch locations.
