April 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Perth, WA  — Evadney , hairdresser with over 29 years of experience in the hairdressing industry has launched a suite of training courses in braiding, weft extensions and dreadlocks aimed at adult learners wanted to increase their skills and creative ability.

Evadney who is of Jamaican descent has been braiding hair since 7 years of age as part of her culture. She has enjoyed a niche position in the industry and now wants to pass on her knowledge in the same way so that cultural traditions are not lost.

As our society becomes more multicultural and melded, there is an increased need for mothers and grandmothers to have the knowledge and the ability to apply their skills and dress their children’s hair suitably.

Her intention is to pass on her skills and teach adult learners, for example, parents or grandparents with children of mixed race, who have difficult to handle afro hair and have always struggled with finding a hairdresser who knows how to handle that type of hair.

The courses are intended for everyone but particularly to people who have an interest in hair and beauty and want to learn a new skill or want to braid their loved ones hair.

With the growing trend in people having dreadlocks, braiding and extensions, there are plenty on opportunities to start a small business working from home.

Evadney believes that every hair can be braided or dreadlocked and the skills can be practiced by anyone.  “Anyone with creative ability can attain these skills and contribute in the workforce in a number of ways” says Evadney.

Details of courses can be found on the website www.learnbraids-extensions-dreadlocksinperth.com  Day courses will be run from the salon in Bassendean.

Notes

Blackberries for Hair has been in existence for 27 years and is recognized as the provider in WA for quality dreadlocks, braiding, and weft extensions. Most referrals come from other hairdressers. Evadney is a fully qualified hairdresser and Certificate IV assessor. Evadney also manufactures the wax used for securing dreadlocks – a recipe passed down from generations in her native Jamaica.

Dreadlocking – Dreadlocks have been around since the dawn of time. Ancient Egyptians wore them, ancient Asian emperor's wore them, cavemen, even John the Baptist and Samson. The first writing about dreadlocks is in the Veda scriptures of India, the earliest piece is dated to 1800 BC. King Tutankhamen himself had dreadlocks, and they are still intact to this day. The actual word dreadlocks comes from Jamaica, made up in the early movement of the Rastamen.

Braiding – Hair braiding is an ancient art passed down from generation to generation in Africa. The origins of the art form can be traced back to ancient Egypt as far as 3500 BC. In many West African countries, hair braiding developed into complex patterns signaling one’s social status, age group or village affiliation. Certain more elaborate hair treatments were reserved for ceremonial occasions such as weddings.

Weft Extensions - Wefted Hair Extensions are simply a curtain of hair used to layer in to your own hair to add color, length and or volume. One of the most famous wearers of Weft hair was Queen Nefertiti.
