The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, founded in 1846, is composed of all volunteers. Called “America’s Choir” by President Ronald Reagan, they receive requests to perform around the world. West Ridge Academy was honored to have them perform at their Spring Gala this year.
The gala was attended by more than 850 supporters as well as current academy students, staff, and many alumni. A special guest was Lt. Governor Greg Bell of Utah, who attended on behalf of Governor Herbert.
The treatment facility has a current capacity of up to 110 boys and 50 girls (on separate campuses). The average stay at West Ridge is 10 to 12 months. Funds raised during these galas and other fund-raising events are used to help families who need assistance. In 2009, West Ridge was able to offer more than $1 million in financial assistance to families in need.
Executive Director, Ken Allen indicates that “...each student typically experiences an 'aha moment' during treatment which comes differently to each student. For some it is through music, others through athletics, still others through spirituality or therapy. This moment of self-awareness begins the real journey which results in personal accountability and change of heart.”
