April 19, 2010 - PRLog -- (Medford, New York) — Gershow Recycling is available for media tours and interviews in conjunction with Earth Day, Thursday, April 22nd.  For the past 45 years, Gershow Recycling has been helping to preserve Long Island’s environment by recycling metals; including aluminum, brass, steel, cast iron, appliances, cars and vehicles.  Each year, Gershow recycles enough vehicles to stretch end to end from Medford to North Carolina; or you can fill all eight lanes of the Long Island Expressway from the Midtown Tunnel to Riverhead.

“Our company has always considered itself integral to conservation efforts on Long Island.  Upwards of 90% of the steel in the world is produced using recycled metals.  Our industry proves that recycling works and helps preserve natural resources for future generations,” said Kevin Gershowitz, President, Gershow Recycling.

Gershow Recycling has been leading the way in environmental conservation, not only through its scrap metal recycling business, but through its community involvement.  The company offers its own “Go Green” children’s activity book, which is a fun and educational way for children to learn about preserving the environment, as well as its “Go Green” reusable shopping bags.  On April 17, Gershow helped sponsor and participated in the Great Brookhaven Cleanup, a town-wide beautification project.  Gershow donated activity books and spring water for the event.  It has also supported several environmental organizations, including the Citizens Campaign for the Environment and the Long Island Pine Barrens Society.
