By: PRMG “Our company has always considered itself integral to conservation efforts on Long Island. Upwards of 90% of the steel in the world is produced using recycled metals. Our industry proves that recycling works and helps preserve natural resources for future generations,” Gershow Recycling has been leading the way in environmental conservation, not only through its scrap metal recycling business, but through its community involvement. The company offers its own “Go Green” children’s activity book, which is a fun and educational way for children to learn about preserving the environment, as well as its “Go Green” reusable shopping bags. On April 17, Gershow helped sponsor and participated in the Great Brookhaven Cleanup, a town-wide beautification project. Gershow donated activity books and spring water for the event. It has also supported several environmental organizations, including the Citizens Campaign for the Environment and the Long Island Pine Barrens Society. # # # About Gershow Recycling Started in 1964 by Sam Gershowitz, Gershow recycling began as a two man operation with a tractor and trailer, a boom truck and the first portable car flattener. Now with the second generation carrying on the legacy, Gershow provides over 750 jobs, contributing millions of dollars to local economy, while helping to preserve Long Island’s environment. End
