April 11, 2010 - PRLog -- (BALTIMORE, Md) – The Magic Wand Project is proud to announce that the first event held at Woodlawn High School was such a success the school has asked founders Diane Freeland and Kim Moss to return on Wednesday, April 22 at 2:00pm.  Woodlawn Senior High School, located in Gwynn Oak, Maryland was the location of its first Magic Wand Project donation drive and prom dress giveaway of the year on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  Students and staff assisted in getting the multipurpose room look like a store complete with mirror and racks of dresses, suits, vests, ties, tuxedos, shoes and accessories.  “We were so excited to see so many students come through and couldn’t believe the response from them, they really got into the whole thing once they saw the quality and styles we had available” noted co-founder Diane Freeland, who was instrumental in forging the relationship with the school.

Susie McNeil, who works at Woodlawn was on hand and ensured that the students did not miss a thing.  She assisted each student and convinced even the shyest of students to search for a dress or tuxedo.  “I know how much they needed this and thank you for coming,” says McNeil, “so can you come back again? We think this is fantastic!”  The biggest surprise for the founders was that they received an unexpected donation of 61 dresses from a mother and daughter who drove from the Eastern Shore to volunteer and deliver the dresses.  “Cary and her daughter jumped right in without hesitation and just worked it – they were amazing!” said Moss who had brought dresses received from new sponsor Marriott UMUC Conference Center’s Prom Angels Closet.  “When we explained to the students and staff that what we had at Woodlawn was maybe 1/3 of what our inventory was, their eyes got huge and said really?!”  Walter Moss, principal photographer and owner of Moss Photography was on hand to capture all of the action and the pictures were posted the next day on the The Project’s Facebook page.  Said Moss, “I was happy I could be there to support my wife and take the pictures, there were so many memorable shots and it was clearly a lot of fun for the kids.”

“I just love the reaction of the students and the parents, this is just great” said The Project’s newest fairy godmother Gwen Love, a local area Human Resources professional. “I especially love that The Project is really paying it forward, I’m emailing and telling all of my friends about this when I get home” she went on to say. The Project will once again allow Woodlawn students to try on and select attire to wear on prom night.
