March 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Ypsilanti, Michigan - An American Opera will be screened as a part of the Rescue Party Tour at the East Meadow Public Library in New York on Monday, April 5 and The Sarasota Fringe Film Festival in Florida on Sunday, April 11, to shed a light on local animal charities. The Rescue Party Tour combines local animal rescue groups in an Expo/Film Festival. Rescue groups are able to join the tour and set up tables with information at the screening of the award winning documentary “An American Opera”.  The Rescue Party Tour is an established film event and fundraising opportunity that generates awareness in communities across the USA.  Filmmaker Tom McPhee attends many of the screenings for a meet and greet beforehand and a Q&A afterwards.

About An American Opera - In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, America suffered the worst domestic animal crisis in its history. Tens of thousands of house pets were left to perish in neighborhoods all across the gulf. An American Opera (http://www.anamericanopera.com) is an unflinching, operatic vision the human-animal interactions that occurred when the people of New Orleans were forced to evacuate without their beloved pets. An American Opera follows the story of the Pets, Vets, Owners, Officials, Rescuers and Adopters of animals as they all work through the chaos to do what is right only to discover not everyone is working toward the same goal. The film is set against a soundtrack of mostly independent alternative rock. Film is not rated.  Recommended for ages 12 and up.

About Tom McPhee - Producer/Director of An American Opera went down to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to help provide relief to those affected.  His efforts led to documentation of the animal rescue efforts. Tom discovered an entire world he had no idea existed and most people never pay attention to: the world of animal rescue. Here were these people, risking everything, sometimes even their lives, to rescue these animals.  Tom McPhee founded the World Animal Awareness Society.  He has been an award winning producer and director of film, tv, multi-language interactive media, as well as a specialty film/media distributor.  Tom McPhee is the owner of 2 media companies, Cave Studio & Man Smiling Moving Pictures (http://www.mansmilingmovingpictures.com). Over the last 4 years, buoyed by An American Opera: The Greatest Pet Rescue Ever! Tom has organically navigated toward developing filmed content with a focus on animal/pet-centric themes. Tom served as producer and host/character on two animal-centric TV shows in 2009 for Canada’s The Pet Network.
