Responding to direct industry requests for additional mining graduates and the forecasted requirement for over 1,000 new equipment operators, Keyano College took the proactive step to significantly increase its capacity to deliver comprehensive and effective equipment training programs utilizing the world’s leading earthmoving training simulators.
Commissioned in February 2010, the college’s latest simulator package includes five simulators, together with five modular ‘Conversion Kits’, simulating a range of Caterpillar and Komatsu haul truck models.
Keyano College Program Coordinator, Janet Somerville said “We had been providing the oil sands companies with 72 graduates a year. With these additional simulators we now have the ability to double our graduate numbers to 150 whilst also increasing students’ simulator based training time to approximately 20 hours, whereas before they were only getting around 8 hours.”
Immersive Technologies Regional Business Development Manager, Kim Lundgreen said “Keyano College is actively responding to the growing operator demands of the oil sands industry. This new simulation based capacity will deliver significant training and financial benefits to the college, whilst also supporting the wider mining industry.”
