Vision Boards, Focusing and Desired Outcomes - The Missing Factor Explained

Many sources often speak in metaphor, are not always clear, and it's only prudent to test things out in the physical realm before we pass things on as doctrine.)

March 11, 2010 - PRLog -- I received an online comment today, directed at a previous article I wrote on vision boards. My point was that, rather than "aligning your desires with the universe," vision boards merely help you clarify your heart's desires. The actual aligning gets done by reconnecting to your inner core (your essence) and following through on your inner guidance, inspiration, and creativity in the moment.

Here's the comment that I received: "Interesting view on vision boards this - my understanding is that they are more a way to focus your mind on your desired outcome, so that you get out of the way of the universe! So often we make it so much harder than it needs to be to achieve our goals - but when we just focus on the end results and stop interfering, then the universe can "do it's thing" and present us with what we want much more easily. It's a benevolent universe - we just need to give it a chance!"

Well, this is the conventional viewpoint, isn't it? A nice comment, but not exactly how I understand things to work. And the reason I wrote the original article in the first place was that I didn't agree with the conventional viewpoint and had something to contribute about it. Otherwise, why write articles?

Regarding "when we just focus on the end results and stop interfering, then the universe can "do it's thing" and present us with what we want much more easily," let me clarify why I don't agree. Through firsthand experience I came to understand that when you focus on the end result rather than on your creativity and the unfolding of your goal in the moment, the end result takes longer to achieve. I also understand that focusing on the end result rather than on your process in the moment is interfering with the natural creative process of the universe.

In fact, I had worked with the Counsel of Light who had communicated to me through a gifted medium: "...the most important thing is to be part of the process. If the result is what you're focusing on, it's harder to get a result. So you do not want to focus on the result, you want to join in the essence of creation and unfold."

(I know this goes against what's claimed by some pretty famous mediums, but we always need to discern what the sources say, regardless of what the sources call themselves. Many sources often speak in metaphor, are not always clear, and it's only prudent to test things out in the physical realm before we pass things on as doctrine.)

And that's exactly what I had experienced. I joined in the "essence of creation" by connecting with my inner core and following though on my guidance and creative inspiration. If I had focused more on the end result rather than on my creativity in the moment, there's no way I would have completed my book by now. By focusing on my creativity rather than resisting it (i.e. interfering), so many truly amazing synchronicities occurred that brought me ever closer to my goal. In The Scottish Himalayan Expedition (1951), W. H. Murray said: "...the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred." To me, this makes intuitive as well as logical sense.
