PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 11, 2010 -
Wednesday is World Plumbing Day and Anderson Plumbing Heating and Air is recognizing this day by promoting their new Cash for Clunkers Toilet Rebate Program.  People are literally flushing dollars down the toilet and wasting millions of gallons of water, one of our most precious resources, according to Mary Jean Anderson, President, Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air.

“When we became San Diego’s first Certified Green Plumber I pledged to help raise awareness of the opportunities for people to make a positive impact on the world through making environmentally conscious choices regarding their usage habits, plumbing fixtures and appliances.  Our “Cash for Clunkers Toilet Rebate” is just one way we are hoping to encourage people to make responsible decisions”, said Anderson.

The toilet rebate program offers client a $100 rebate on the purchase of any new water efficient low-flow toilet.  The program also includes the removal and recycling of the old toilet at no charge.

Toilets may be a humorous topic in general, but the waste of millions gallons of drinking water is no laughing matter.  According to the EPA, an estimated 4.8 billion gallons are flushed down the toilet every day. The American Water Works Association states that the average household uses 20-28 gallons per day to flush the toilet. In 1992, The Energy Policy Act of 1992 made progress in reducing water waste by mandating that all new toilets produced for residential conform to a 1.6 gallon-per-flush (gpf) standard, moving away from conventional 3.5 - 5 gpf models.

Locally, San Diego's Water Conservation Program offers vouchers for replacement of 3.5 gpf or higher toilets with water-conserving models. You can save as much as $165 by using a voucher when you replace your clunker toilet with a water-conscious version. And don’t forget the $100 rebate we provide.
