The Los Angeles MEPS was built by Mar Ventures to meet the Department of Defense Anti Terrorism Standards for Buildings. It includes enhanced window construction, dedicated ventilation systems, and specially designed structural detailing for the prevention of progressive collapse.
Mar Ventures constructed the LA MEPS facility following sustainable guidelines as specified by the U.S. Green Building and will receive LEED certification. Among the environmental and energy-saving features include low-flow toilets and faucets, light-pollution controls, and energy efficient structures and heating/cooling systems. In addition, Mar Ventures used approximately 30 percent of reclaimed or recycled materials in the construction. The Department of Defense relocated the former Los Angeles MEPS to El Segundo from a decades old building on Rodeo Road in Baldwin Village after signing a 15-year lease.
