Feb. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- (EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – This weekend there will be a collegiate takeover of a Historic Hotel of America here in this small Ozark community.  This could be referred to as a “coup de spatula” when the students in Hospitality and Restaurant Management (HRMN) program in Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas will operate the 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa for a day during “A Class Act,” a fundraising event.

Proceeds from the event will help support the growth and development of the HRMN program.  The money raised will be used to provide student scholarships, professional development programs for students and faculty, and equipment and supplies for research projects promoting excellence in hospitality, according to Dr. Robert Harrington, Associate Professor and the Twenty-first Century Endowed Chair in Hospitality.

The highlight of the weekend will be the Friday night reception with silent auction and dinner at 6:30.  The dinner and reception appetizer stations will feature Arkansas-inspired cuisine, wine, and entertainment followed the next morning by a breakfast buffet.

The dinner will be a three-course meal featuring Asparagus and Cheese Soup, Roast Sirloin of Beef Rubbed with Garlic and Herb “Batutto,” and Death By “Arkansas Biscuits and Chocolate Gravy.”  Music and dancing will follow the meal with the event ending at midnight.

“This Friday night, theory will meet reality with the planned program and these students will be coming out as the winners,” said Jack Moyer, the Crescent’s Vice-President of Operations and Development and the chairman of the U of A Hospitality AND Restaurant Program Advisory Board.  “I cannot think of another Hotel and Restaurant Management Program that has students totally operate an independent resort in the private sector.  Because of this program, the University of Arkansas Hospitality Program differentiates itself from all the others.”

Numerous University and hospitality industry notables are scheduled to attend the Friday night affair and the career-networking event the next day for the students.  Moyer explained that the Crescent, which provides a summer internship for a U of A student, plans to hire its 2010 intern during the career fair.  He added that other historic hotels would also be recruiting at the fair.
