Rossignol Snowboards Rossignol Sultan Snowboard

The Rossignol Sultan men's board is has been one of the best selling snowboards over the past few years due to its construction and shape making the board ideal  in all conditions for beginners as well as experienced boarders. From the ladies range the Rossignol Reserve snowboard is designed specifically for recreation and all mountain boarding, this is a snowboard we would recommend as ideal for all first timers looking to take up the sport with a view to becoming a recreational boarder.  Both the Rossignol Sultan and Rossignol Reserve are as ideal as all snow condition decks, and the stunning graphic s add to the overall appeal of these fantastic snowboards.

Rossignol Skis

Perfect for all mountain skiing activities, Rossignol Bandit SC80 skis are the first choice for all terrain from hard pack piste to deep powder, the Rossignol Bandit ensures an excellent ride in all conditions. Sold with Skis and bindings if you’re the type of skier who likes to go anywhere on the mountain, the Rossignol Bandit will keep you entertained for the whole ski trip.  For the women, the Rossignol Bandit B80 ensures a great ride, and like the men’s version these skis are ideal for beginners as well as intimidates.

Snowboarding culture

In 1964 a surf enthusiast had the idea of surfing on the snow and decided to design and build the first snowboard combining skiing and surfing. Very quickly a craze developed and took the world of outdoor sports to a whole new level with snowboarding. Today, snowboarding has caught up with skiing for popularity and most of the younger thrill seekers on the mountain have a snowboard strapped to their feet rather than a set of skis. As the snowboarding culture grew, the Ski Brands such as Rossignol, White Rock and Surfanic began manufacturing snowboards with fantastic designs and graphics on the boards much like surfboards and skateboards. Salopettes and ski suites have given way to baggy snow pants and colourful snowboarding jackets and a whole culture has arisen based on the winter sport. Snow parks have begun to appear in the popular ski resorts as well as shops and activities to cater for snowboarders and snowboarding.

Skiing culture

Skiing is one of the world’s oldest sports, the Stone Age people of northern Europe and Russia used early forms of skis to stay on top of the snow when hunting, and the earliest ski was found in Sweden which was reported to be over 5000 years old! Over the years, skiing has become one of the world’s largest sports with thousands of families hitting the slopes each year for recreation. Skis, ski equipment, and ski wear has evolved, and technology is constantly improving allowing skis to become more aerodynamic and manoeuvrable in all snow conditions.

Snowboarding hints and tips

When planning a snowboarding trip it is important to bear a few things in mind when booking your holiday. If your new to the sport, try to find a resort that caters for beginners, ski schools are available and a few days with an experienced instructor works wonders for developing basic skills.  Snow parks have been built in most of the popular resorts for the experienced boarders with half pipes, ramps and challenging ski runs. When embarking on a day’s boarding always check the weather reports for the day and ensure you have enough layers of ski clothing to keep you warm. A rucksac containing tools for your board, drink, food, a piste map, and for the experienced boarder, a shovel and ice pick might be a good ideal in case of an avalanche; preparation makes for a happy boarder!  Ski wear should include the following –

Snowboarding Jacket
Snowboarding Pants
Thermal underwear (including thick thermal socks)
Polar neck under jacket fleece
Good quality Snow proof gloves (beginners will have their hands in the snow more than you might expect)
Helmet – this is now becoming compulsory for children in most ski resorts
Rucksack
Food and drink
Goggles or sunglasses
Warm hats
Apres ski boots (essential for extra grip and warmth when strolling around the resort)

Skiing hints and tips

A good fall of snow and fresh powder is essential for Snowboarding, but not so important for skiing. Although the trip is not so enjoyable with little snow fall, Skis are easier to manoeuvre over icy conditions than snowboards.  Ski schools are available for beginners and tuition is a great idea for children and adults looking to take up the sport.  Remember to rest at frequent intervals, bars and restaurants can usually be found serving food and drinks on the mountain but it is always sensible to pack some food and drink in your rucksack before you head off for the day. Once again, check the weather reports and dress accordingly, bad weather and blizzards can suddenly creep in so be prepared!

Skiwear should include the following -

Ski Jackets
Salopettes (or all in one ski suit)
Thermal Underwear (including thick thermal socks)
Polar neck under jacket fleece
Ski gloves
Helmet – this is now becoming compulsory for children in most ski resorts
Rucksack
Food and drink
Goggles or sunglasses
Warm hats
Warm apres ski boots (this is a better solution to normal warm boots as the sole is designed for better grip in the snow)
