Feb. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- BOSTON- Besides gaining the first licensed song placement of her new single, "The Yellow Brick Road Song" on the HBO series "How To Make It In America", nationally award winning slam Poet and vocalist, Iyeoka (pronounced ee-yo!-kah) spends the majority of her time these days between LA and Boston, writing and recording for her self-titled debut album on Underground Sun Records, while still maintaining a heavy touring schedule across the US as one of the top Poets in the National Slam Poetry circuit. The digital release of her 3 EP's leading up to the full album release hints at a true American success story for the Nigerian-American rising star still new to all the attention of a growing mainstream music audience.

As a once full time registered pharmacist for CVS, turned full time poet, turned full time recording artist, Iyeoka is living the lyrics of her song  that will appear on the third episode in the new HBO show.  As more and more fans continue to discover Iyeoka in her quest to becoming a leading light amongst the new wave of songwriting soul singers, the Boston-born Nigerian native says she has only one focus now and that is “...to show my people back home exactly how much hard work, perseverance and a few well timed miracles it takes to "make it" in America.”

With a loyal fan following in the underground "Slam Scene", Iyeoka's previous albums, "Black and Blues" and "Hum the Bass Line", captured the beginnings of her song writing style with a unique blend of poetry and music interwieved generously throughout the record.-- think if Jill Scott or Lauryn Hill chose to make a slam poetry album. Her latest, set to a release date in September 2010, bumps the production values up significantly.

Her catchy-upbeat song “Yellow Brick Road”, produced by LA-based composer David Franz, has been gaining many positive reviews from a diverse demographic of music listeners. The themes in the lyrics speak on the idea that anything is possible, encouraging the listener that "we can achieve the inconceivable... we can follow our own yellow brick road".

With themes of a similar caliber, "How to Make It In America", which has its debut this Sunday on HBO, tells the story of Ben and Cam, entrepreneurs hustling at the fringes of the fashion world.  The new Entourage-esque show, from creator Ian Edelman, follows the two enterprising Brooklyn twentysomethings as they hustle their way through New York City, determined to achieve the American Dream. In their journey to make a name for themselves in New York’s competitive fashion scene, Ben Epstein (Bryan Greenberg) and his friend and business partner Cam Calderon (Victor Rasuk) use their street knowledge and connections to bring their ambitions to fruition. With the help of Cam’s cousin Rene (Luiz Guzman), who is trying to market his own high-energy drink, and their well-connected friend Domingo (“Kid Cudi”), the burgeoning entrepreneurs set out to make it big, encountering obstacles along the way that will require all their ingenuity to overcome.

Creator and first-time writer Ian Edelman is collaborating with Emmy nominee Rob Weiss (“Entourage”) on many of the show’s scripts.”How to Make It in America” is produced by Stephen Levinson, Rob Weiss, Ian Edelman, and Boston's own, Mark Wahlberg.
