Follow on Google News | 2010 World Car of the Year shortlistThe shortlist for the 2010 World Car of the Year award has been announced. A wide range of manufacturers are shortlisted, with German manufacturers particularly well represented.
By: Robin Brown The Opel Ingsignia - sold in the UK as the Vauxhall Insignia - completes the German shut-out, though British interests will also lie with the Insignia Volkswagen took the award in 2009 for sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf. Japanese manufacturers also do well, with the third-generation Toyota Prius hybrid and Mazda3 hatch named in the shortlist. The unorthodox Kia Soul,hailing from South Korea, and American-built Chevrolet Cruze, from the General Motors stable, round off the list of shortlisted models. The successful car will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, alongside the 2010 World Performance Car, World Design Car and World Green Car. The World Green Car is dominated by hybrids, including the Ford Fusion hybrid, Mercedes-Benz S400 hybrid, Honda Insight and Toyota Prius all competing with the low-emission Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion for the title currently held by the Honda FCX Clarity.
