The Smiths return to the UK charts next week...

A new Facebook group is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Meat Is Murder by putting The Smiths back into the UK charts.

Jan. 31, 2010 - PRLog -- A new Facebook group is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Meat Is Murder by campaigning to get The Smiths back into the UK charts.
The group is called "The Smiths How Soon Is Now? for No1 Meat Is Murder 25th Anniversary"
and began downloading The Smiths classic "How Soon Is Now?" today for a chart place next week to coincide with the original release date of 11th Feb 1985.
it also means the group are in direct competition with Jedward's debut single which is also available for download this week.

The group are confident of a top 20 hit but are aiming for as high as possible and are rallying and recruiting members using social networking sites Facebook, Myspace and Twitter.

The campaign has been featured in Rolling Stone and talked about Radio 1 & 2 and also RTE Television.

The Smiths have been described as "the most influential band of all time" by NME and their songs have been covered by Radiohead, Mark Ronson, Placebo, Noel Gallagher and The Magic Numbers amongst others yet they never had a number 1 single.
