   Kind of dramatic huh? Well, Sicarii is not your average rapper, and "Before I Sleep" is not your average rap album. In today's ever declining music industry, obsessed with microwavable pop hits and art-depraved ringtone sales, composing 60 minutes of music spanning 25 years of life's ills and joys is an exhausting feat for any artist. So to accomplish said task with such intense wit (and perhaps some nihilism) and in a manner as effortlessly entertaining as Sicarii has done it, speaks volumes to the vitality of real hip-hop artistry. Cut from the same cloth as mid-nineties, hardcore, everyman street MC's like Redman, Jeru the Damaja, Boot Camp Click, and of course Wu-Tang Clan, Sicarii passionately fuses dense lyricism with graphic narratives detailing the current trials and tribulations of street life. As a recovering drug addict himself, Sicarii uses this record to publicly battle with his long standing demons, express his frusterations as an upcoming rap artist, and offers a much-needed perspective of those who fell through the cracks of the drug game. "Everyone can't be Scarface. What about the Requiem for a Dreams'?" It's not all heavy concepts though, as Sicarii's fluid, stream of consciousness rhyme style has him tackling these serious issues in between waxing poetic about everything under the sun and carving a lyrical niche for himself amongst rap's elite.
   "Before I Sleep" is a self described "soundtrack to the human struggle", as the production (also handled primarily by Sicarii) ranges from lush, epic soundscapes to sample-heavy, rugged loops, but always provides a soulful and powerful platform for Sicarii's vocals. Always one to push the creative envelope, this record boldly refuses to be trapped in the box we love to put music in. "It's a reflection of the life I lead. Good and bad, both sides are necessary". "Before I Sleep" is underground and commercial, positive and negative, light and dark, smart and stupid, but cohesively solid  throughout. Also, this record is the first chapter of a two part album concept, with "The Awakening" to follow in 2010.
   The album's lead single is a split with "Bless Da Boy", a raw, in-your-face, revenge inspired street banger set to rock grimy clubs everywhere, and "Get It", a high-energy, paper-chasing anthem with the potential to demolish commercial radio. "Before I Sleep" also features just one guest appearence, courtesy of fellow Springfield, MA native Shev on the home-state saluting "Murder". As previously stated, Sicarii (as Ice Grill) handles the majority of the production duties, with beatsmiths Joe Young (Suicide Kings), Young Cee & Gut (Little Brother, Special Teamz, Kin Dread, Gutta Fam), Lord K, and Phlow making contributions. "I've been doing this for about a decade, and I've recorded like 4 or 5 straight solo albums that never came out. This is my official debut and I'm so proud to see the work come into fruition.
