In time of artistic recession, Chicago Impressionism movement continues to thrive

Jan. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- (Chicago, IL)- According to a study by Americans for the Arts, there are nearly 100,000 nonprofit arts organizations in the United States that create approximately 5.7 million jobs and brings in $30 billion in government revenue annually. In December 2009, the National Endowment for the Arts discovered that the American arts audience had been gradually decreasing in size, with the lowest reported art museum attendance in a quarter century.
In congruence with the dwindling arts audience, the rate of artist unemployment is on the rise. Employment amongst painter and others with occupations in the fine arts field increased 7.1 percent, second only to performing artists.

In the face of these statistics, Chicago Impressionism continues to flourish. The Chicago Impressionist movement, created by Evanston artist Gregory Allen Page, blends traditional artistic techniques with a modern perspective as well as an apparent influence from the urban environment of the city of Chicago. Just like the early impressionists of Paris, the paintings created by Page are inspired by passion, not by money. Thanks to a successful career in medicine, Page does not rely on guidelines for commission paintings and is blessed with the freedom to create art that is truly inspired.

His paintings are reminiscent of the great artists of the original impressionist era. Drawing inspiration from the sketchbooks of Renoir, Monet, Sargent, and Seurat, Page’s oil on canvas paintings showcase expressive colors and palpable textures.

Despite the increasing artist unemployment rate, Gregory Page continues to push forward. Having had his art displayed in galleries across the globe, Page recently turned his attention closer to home. With his paintings on exhibition at Interior Effects in Evanston, IL, Page sold his first original painting for $5,000.

Gregory Allen Page lives and works out of Evanston, Illinois. For more information about the artist, to view his works, or to contact the artist, please visit www.chicagoimpressionism.com
