IP2Location Internet IP Address 2010 Report analyzes the distributions and the trends of IPv4 address allocation in 240 countries using historical data in the 2009 with a chart showing the percentage of IP address ownership by country in 2010. From the data analysis, the United States tops the allocation list by holding 37.46% of the total IP addresses worldwide. It is followed by the United Kingdom (9.94%), China (8.33%), Japan (7.13%) and Germany (3.90%).
In addition, the report also includes a month-to-month comparison of worldwide IP address ownership by country in 2009 in the form of a chart. From the chart analysis, the total percentages of the IP address space allocated to networks in the United States is decreasing at a slow pace while the new IP address space allocated to networks in China has kept increasing for the second consecutive year.

On November 9, 2009, Geoff Huston of APNIC, with detailed daily simulations, predicted the exhaustion date of the unallocated IPv4 address pool in September 2011. The practical solution to solve the IPv4 address exhaustion is the transition of the Internet to IPv6. However, the penetration was still less than one percent of the Internet traffic in any country.
