Savant Books and Publications LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii, publishers of significant books and enduring media for the 21st century, is pleased to announce the release of renowned Japanese artist Tatasuyuki Kobayashi's new book entitled "The Interzone: A Man of the Dark Grey."
The collection of 120 artworks, paints, wood engravings and other multi-media works completed between 2005 and 2008 has been almost a year in production. Mr. Kobayashi says, "I was myself pleasantly surprised that while the foci, presentations and media changed over time, my interest in portraying people in relation to today's big-city world didn't. By the way, the title, 'Interzone,' was inspired by a rock band named Joy Division, whose music inspired me to capture the infinite faces of life journey from the darkness and coldness of beginning."
The works, portrayed in a spectrum of greys from start white to midnight black, belie the subtitle: A Man of the Dark Grey. "I like drawing expressions that most of the people don't think are beautiful. When I was a student in the Fashion Illustration college, I was always warned by my teacher about my artworks. He said that I shouldn't draw dark circles under the model's eyes and fallen cheeks. Even so, over the years I've never changed my inclination of painting. I like drawing beautiful models as unbeautiful. I think in the contrast you will see the real humanness in my works."
Kobayashi began making woodblock prints while studying at Sugino Fashion University. In 2006, he presented his collected works in an international exhibition entitled "Rashoumon" at the Gallery La Mer in Tokyo. He exhibited more of the works in a second exhibition entitled "Self-portrait,"
