Dec. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Thomas Lie-Nielsen, America's premier maker of fine woodworking hand planes and other hand tools, will teach an educational seminar at Highland Woodworking in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, January 24, 2010. Mr. Lie-Nielsen will also be giving free hand plane and hand tool demonstrations during the Highland Woodworking Tool Festival throughout the day on Saturday, January 23.

Bringing modern methods and materials to the manufacture of traditional woodworking hand tools, Lie-Nielsen has played a significant role in reviving appreciation for old ways of working wood. Lie-Nielsen premium-quality hand planes in particular are highly sought after by today's amateur and professional woodworking craftsmen. Mr. Lie-Nielsen is also the author of the book, "Complete Illustrated Guide to Sharpening," published by Taunton Press in 2004.

An experienced woodworker himself, Lie-Nielsen first began making tools in a small shed at his home in 1981. As he listened carefully to other woodworkers and responded to their needs, his business grew to become an icon in the world's woodworking community. He now operates a 13,000 square foot factory on the coast of Maine that employs 42 people.

In Mr. Lie-Nielsen's Sunday, January 24 class, "Sharpening and Using Hand Planes," he will instruct participants on how to properly sharpen plane blades and other edge tools, adjust and tune a plane for optimum performance, and practice the skills necessary to use planes successfully in a woodworking shop. Students will bring their own hand planes and sharpening stones to practice with as they receive coaching and feedback from Mr. Lie-Nielsen.

Mr. Lie-Nielsen has agreed to personally engrave his autograph on Lie-Nielsen tools that participants already own or purchase during Highland's Tool Festival.

Because the Sunday event is a hands-on seminar with one-on-one instruction as needed, the class size is limited to 16 students. Information on registering for the class is available at www.highlandwoodworking.com, or by phone at 800-241-6748.

For those attending Mr. Lie-Nielsen's free hand plane and hand tool demonstrations at Highland Woodworking on Saturday, January 23, no advance registration is necessary.
