PRLog -- The Principality of Sealand, a micronation based on a World War Two platform in the North Sea, has formed a national Football Association and appointed Neil Forsyth as inaugural President of the Sealand Football Association. The Prince Regent of Sealand, Michael Bates, says that the formation of a national football (soccer) team is initially aimed at entry into the 2010 Viva World Cup.
“As Prince Regent of the Principality of Sealand, I am excited and proud of the formation of a national Football Association”
, says Bates. “We are now looking to the Viva World Cup as a way of telling the Sealand story to the sporting world. I hereby appoint Neil Forsyth to the position of President of the Association. I congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to watching the progress of the national team”.
British author Forsyth approached Sealand with the suggestion of forming a national football team. “I have long been fascinated by Sealand and I’m delighted to accept the challenge of forming what promises to be the most unique national football team in the world”, says Forsyth. “The story of Sealand is one of daring and unbridled ambition and these are the qualities I will be urgently seeking in all potential Sealand internationalists. As well as being two-footed with good sea legs”.
