New Website helps consumers replace TV discs from box sets.

Don't you hate when a single disc in your DVD TV box set is ruined, lost or stolen? What do you do? Spend $50-$60-$70 buying the entire season again for ONE disc? Not anymore.

Dec. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- Brewer, Maine "People pay a lot of money for some of these TV box sets and if one disc gets damaged, they are screwed," says replacetvdisc.com founder Doug Gordon.

Until now.

In late 2007, Gordon launched the website, replacetvdisc.com and immediately started helping consumers who had lost or damaged their single discs. Their sales have steadily grown over the last two years. Revenue is up 395% from just a year ago

"I originally intended the site to be used by video stores as a way for them to quickly and inexpensively replace a lost or damaged disc from their TV rental inventory. The profit on renting out TV show box sets can be lucrative UNLESS a single disc of the season goes missing or isn't returned by a customer. That just becomes a nightmare situation," he says.

The video store can easily order the disc they need and have it in their store in a couple days.

But one thing Gordon hadn't counted on was consumers using the site and they did right from the beginning. Most are replacing lost or damaged discs, but some are buying just a disc to watch certain episodes or special features.

"Some discs are more popular than others," Gordon admits, "But it doesn't really create a problem because it tends to run in cycles. For a while there we couldn't give away Dexter season 1 disc 3, and then all of sudden that's the only Dexter disc we're selling. It all evens out in the end."

Another popular aspect of replacetvdisc.com is customers send in their "How I lost my TV Disc" stories. Co-founder Heidi Pugliese says, "We get all kinds of stories, some are very imaginative or very funny and sometimes even sad. One recent story was about a guy who was watching TRUE BLOOD with his girlfriend and they have a fight during the season. He ends up packing up all of his stuff and moving out. But he forgets the single disc in the player. He thanked us over and over, because there was no way he wanted to go back to her apartment and get the disc."

The future of entertainment and how people will access TV shows may be in question, but as long as TV DVD Box sets remain part of a multi-billion dollar business, replacetvdisc.com will continue to help consumers replace their missing discs cheaply.
