Emerald Group Publishing Limited has published a new book highlighting innovative developments in research and modelling of how we, as pedestrians, move around in a variety of situations.
“Pedestrian Behavior: Models, Data Collection and Applications ” edited by Harry Timmermans brings together chapters from leading scholars representing different modelling approaches which can be used to simulate phenomena such as lane formation, crowding, path decisions, impulse buying and store choice behaviour.
Of interest to urban planners, transportation, civil engineering and computer scientists, this book illustrates how these models can be applied to a variety of situations, such as capacity planning, evacuation and retail. Modelling approaches include cellular automata models, fluid dynamics, discrete choice models and experiences with GPS technologies are also discussed.
Since a recent acquisition of books in 2008 Emerald can celebrate its position as the leading publisher of transport books, with “Pedestrian Behavior: Models, Data Collection and Applications”
Published 15 November 2009, “Pedestrian Behavior: Models, Data Collection and Applications ” is available from http://books.emeraldinsight.com.
