Nov. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- As a mother of three, esteemed designer Stella McCartney has thrilled fashion conscious mums by launching her first children’s wear collection in collaboration with GapKids.

The 70-piece line takes inspiration from her practical experience as a mum and shows the designer’s usual ethical considerations.

“A big part of the excitement for me was not just the clothes but the shoes,” said McCartney. “Because so many people had said to me, ‘I can’t get shoes for my kids that aren’t leather.’”

The collection caters for this requirement with the inclusion of cute retro style hi-top trainers that your kids will love, made in animal-friendly fabrics with rubber soles.
Other items include long-sleeved t-shirts, cashmere sweaters, jeans and trenchcoats, and there are also ranges for babies and toddlers – look out for the pretty tulle skirt!

The girls’ palette is based on dusky pinks and greys, and includes a little purple, brown, yellow and green, while the boys have options in grey, blue, brown, green and yellow. McCartney has wisely opted for non-scratchy fabrics, which will also be a hit with any lucky children who are treated to clothing from this range, designed for babies to 12-year-olds.

McCartney’s popularity continues to grow: sales for the last year have soared by 70% and it is good to see someone with such huge influence in the fashion world sticking to her principles on ethical fashion.

Children are increasingly fashion conscious and while this collection certainly isn’t cheap, it’s reassuringly well made and reasonably affordable.

“For years now I’ve wanted to create a collection for kids, it’s something I’ve often been asked about,” reveals McCartney. “I believe that this one-off collaboration will be a great way for customers to be able to participate in the Stella McCartney brand. I believe that kids’ clothing should be more accessibly priced, which is particularly important at the moment given the current climate. It’s really exciting for us to do a boys and girls collection for the first time."
